Jean Fuller Guy of Humboldt, Tennessee, passed away on January 6, 2016 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital after a long illness. Jean was born in Nashville, Tennessee on December 26, 1934, to the late Charles Cunningham Fuller and Marion Winn Fuller of Old Hickory, Tennessee. She was a sixth generation descendant of President Andrew Jackson’s wife, Rachel Donelson Jackson and their adopted son, Andrew Jackson, Jr.
Jean’s early childhood years were spent traveling among several states where her father was stationed in the Army Air Corps.
After returning to Tennessee following World War II, she attended Andrew Jackson Elementary School and spent much of her time on the family farm with her beloved Aunt and Uncle Louise and Aubrey Maxwell who had no children. Her Aunt Louise was a very important part of her life and they were close companions.
Jean graduated from Ward Belmont/Harpeth Hall High School in Nashville in 1953 and then attended Holton Arms Junior College in Washington, D.C. where she graduated in 1955.
She and her husband Charlie met on a blind date in 1953 at Sewanee – The University of The South and were married following their graduations in 1955.
Military service in the U.S. Air Force then ensued in 1956 for Charlie and over a three year period the family lived in Florida, Texas, and Kansas. In 1959, following Charlie’s military leave of absence with AT&T (Southern Bell) the family returned to Nashville and subsequently lived in Knoxville and Birmingham before transferring to Humboldt in 1974.
Jean was an avid reader and gardener who was frequently consulted by her friends for her gardening advice. She loved wild birds and was an astute observer, able to identify the many species of birds wherever the family resided over the years. Outside her husband and family, her greatest love was traveling, both stateside and overseas.
Jean is survived by her husband Charlie and her daughters, Karen Louise Guy and Judith Fuller Guy of Old Hickory, and son, Charles B. Guy, Jr. and daughter in law Linda Roberts Guy of Heber Springs, AR; grandchildren, William Cayce Guy, Charles Andrew Guy, and Niki Danielson Arango and husband Camilo Arango of Nashville; one great granddaughter, Sofia Louise Arango of Nashville, Tennessee.
Jean was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always supportive of her husband and the frequent moves the family made, always putting her family first. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 11, 2016 from 4-6 p.m. at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Humboldt. The Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 2 p.m. at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Humboldt.
