Jeannette overcame a long and courageous battle with throat cancer in 2011, but finally lost her recent battle with tongue cancer in 2021. She was a lifetime non-smoker.
Jeannette was born in Jackson, Tennessee to her late parents, Harold H. Black and wife, Pearl Futrell Black, both of Jackson. She had no siblings.
Jeannette was a proud graduate of the Jackson High School Class of '57. She was also a graduate of West Tennessee Business College and later became a loyal employee of the law firm of Utley & Latimer. She served as a real estate and bankruptcy paralegal and office manager there for 37 years, beginning in 1972 and retiring in 2009.
She was also known for her love of music and was the director of the Jackson Ladies' Barbershop Chorus which performed regularly at the Casey Jones Old Country Store along with many other special occasions, weddings, and community events. Her love of music was evident as she was an accomplished pianist and choir member of the Highland Park Baptist Church's choir for 52 years. She served as substitute pianist and VBS pianist for a number of years. Her friends and family will also remember her as a most dedicated and loyal Christian woman who lived an example of what a Godly Christian Lady should be. She was an optimist in every sense of the word and put her "all" into everything she volunteered to do. She also served as church clerk, church secretary, pastor search committee and numerous other committees and the treasurer of the WMU. She was also a long-time internet counselor for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Society.
Her "bucket list" included traveling with her late husband, Tommy Thompson, throughout the U. S., Hawaii, Alaska, and countless other countries abroad and a foreign mission trip to Romania in the early 2000's. She frequently stated that the only two things on her "bucket list" that she wasn't able to accomplish was visiting the Holy Land and Zip-lining. In addition to these activities, she enjoyed country-western line dancing, playing cards with her friends, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, and serving food at the low income housing projects. She was fond of Jeopardy and a whiz at Wheel of Fortune.
Jeannette was pre-deceased by her adoring husband, Tommy Thompson, (1936-2003) to whom she was married for 45 years. She was also pre-deceased by a special sister-in-law, Reta Thompson, of Millington, Tennessee.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet (Jan) Thompson Morris and son-in-law, Randal Morris. She also leaves a brother-in-law, Bobby Thompson and his wife, Minerva of Millington, Tennessee, and several loving neices, nephews, and cousins on her paternal and maternal sides of her family.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Visitation will resume on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 12-1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., officiated by Anthony Rhodes, Senior Pastor of Union Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Union Baptist Church Building Fund, 330 Union Church Road, Lexington, TN 38351.
