
grandmother, died Sunday afternoon at Maplewood Health Care Center. She was 95.
Mrs. Nickell Was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Sac City, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Bert and Mrs. Ema Newton.
She met the love of her life, Robert Bowen Nickell, in Champaign, IL, while he was a student at the
University Of Illinois. A year later they were married on Feb. 11, 1943, in the chapel aboard the U.S.
Marine Corps base at Quantico, VA.
Mrs• Nickell is survived by a son, Robert N. Nickell, and her daughter-in-law, Linda G. Nickell, both of
Jackson.
Other survivors include her two grandsons and a granddaughter, all of whom knew her as Nicki. They
are Joshua G. Nickell (and his wife Alycia) of Oceanside, CA; Jacob Nickell (and his wife Sydnie) of
Jackson; and Jordan Nickell of Murfreesboro. She also is survived by a great-granddaughter, Lydia Nickell of Jackson.
In addition to keeping an eye on her grandchildren, Mrs. Nickell enjoyed volunteering. She taught
Sunday school for more than 30 years at Central Presbyterian Church in Clayton, MO, served as a co- ordinator for the Webster/Rock Hill Ministries in Webster
Groves, MO, and was a volunteer at Jackson- Madison County General Hospital.
