

Kevin Ramsey Hunter, born December 22, 1953 died suddenly on December 1, 2009. A Service of Remembrance will be held Friday, December 4, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Aldersdate United Methodist Church in Jackson. Visitation will be at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons on Thursday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at Aldersgate UMC from noon until 1 p.m. on Friday prior to the service.Kevin grew up in Winchester, Tennessee, the son of William and Frances Hunter (both deceased). He was the fifth of six children. As a young person, he started his own lawn mowing business and was an Eagle Scout. At age, 16, he led his own pack of Cub Scouts. He graduated from MTSU with a degree in accounting in 1974. At MTSU, he met his wife of 33 years, Kathy Naylor Hunter, a Jackson native. He was a member of PI KAPPA PHI faternity.Kevin Hunter believed in being proficient. In his professional life, he studied hard and acquired numerous certifications. He was proud of each of them because he wanted everything he did to be done right. His business card had no more space for letters because under his name, it read CPA, CITP, CGHEIT, and CISA. He was a member of the Tennessee Society of CPA’s and a former state officer.Kevin was a man of many interests and strived to be expert at all of them. He loved travel, genealogy, model railroading, computers, music, UT Football, Memphis Tiger Basketball, and fine food and wine. If you had the time, he would share his knowledge of those topics with you.Kevin was an active and loyal member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Trustees and Finance Committees. He had recently set up computers in the Children’s Sunday School class. His favorite church involvement was musical. Kevin sang tenor in the choir for 28 years and was a member of the gospel quartet, Joy of Heaven.He had contributed to the Jackson community through his involvement with the Exchange Club, Leadership Jackson, and Rotary International which named him a Paul Harris Fellow in 2004. Kevin survived a near fatal trauma in 1995 and subsequently, became a faithful blood donor. A public service ad that he made for Lifeline Blood Service was named the Tennessee Public Service Ad for that year. He was a tissue donor whose gift will help ten blind people see, increase the survival of burn victims, and restore mobility to victims of traumatic injuries. Kevin Hunter was a person of high ethics and morals who loved his family and revered God. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Kathy Naylor Hunter of Jackson; son, Stephen Ramsey Hunter of Jackson; daughter, Emily Kathryn Hunter of Nashville, Kathy’s parents, Jack and Doris Naylor of Jackson; five siblings----Denny Hunter of Federal Way, WA, Gail Hunter of Woodbury, NJ, Lynne Hughes of Chattanooga, Diane Hunter of Chattanooga, TN, and Denise Barnes of Wilmington, NC, and a very good friend, Tim Belton, of Jackson.In lieu of flowers, Kevin would want you to remember him through gifts to Asbury Communities of Tennessee (assisted living houses for adults with disabilities and home to son, Stephen) or Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
