

Linda VinsonLinda Ruth Whitten Vinson, age 88, passed away on May 27, 2015 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital after a brief illness.Funeral services for Mrs. Vinson will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Brother Mark Cagel and Dr. Tommy Vinson (nephew) officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren, Will Cupples, Kari Cupples, Jill Jackson, Col. Marc Kelly, Melody Kelly, Chris Rice, Arron Smalley, and Lydia Smalley.Mrs. Vinson was born on April 4, 1927 near Sherman, MS. She married her loving and faithful husband, William (Bill) Vinson, on March 1, 1947. The couple moved to Jackson, TN, in 1947 where Mr. Vinson attended Union University. The Vinson's enjoyed 68 years of marriage. The couple had three children, Judy Rice (David) of Olive Branch, MS, Fred Vinson (Jane) of Jackson, and Susan Cupples (Don) of Atoka, TN. Mrs. Vinson loved her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Mrs. Vinson was preceded in death by her parents, Langston and Jessie Mae Whitten; brothers, Wood, William, Joe and June Whitten; sister, Mary Bolt; and grandson, Jim Vinson.Mrs. Vinson is survived by siblings, Florence Whitten, Doris Gillespie, and Dora Rice (Thomas) all of Tupelo, MS.Mrs. Vinson was a longtime member of Malesus Baptist Church and the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. Linda loved cooking for her family and she enjoyed gardening. The family appreciates the excellent care given Linda by Loretta Boyd and Elaine Collins.Memorials may be sent to the Malesus Baptist Church Building Fund.Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 9 a.m. until the service time of 11 a.m.
