

Mary Ruth is survived by her son, Dr. Mark Houston and wife Laurie Hays of Nashville, her grandchildren Helen Ruth Houston Wolter (Scott) of Boone, NC; Dr. Marcus James (Bo) Houston (Aisha) of Oakland, CA; John Marcus Houston (Katie) of Nashville, TN; and Martha Kelly Houston Foster (Michael) of Nashville. She is also survived and blessed by 8 grandchildren and a host of cousins and lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis C Jones and Geneva (Garrett) Jones, her brother James W Jones, and her beloved husband Rupert R Houston.
Mark her son remembers her as exemplifying the word “LOVE” in everything she did and in all of her relationships with family and friends. She loved life and she never complained. Mary Ruth Houston was the proud owner of her beauty shop for 66 years. Several of the citizens of Jackson and surrounding areas received the detailed attention of Mary Ruth Houston and the “girls” in her shop as they assisted people to look as beautiful on the outside and they were blessed to be on the inside.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Browns United Methodist Church, 181 McLeary Rd., Jackson, TN 38305, with Rev. Stephen Callicoatt officiating. Interment will be in the Browns Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers to serve are Jerry Barlar, Swan Burrus, Steve Dennison, Stewart Hays, Bo Houston, and John Houston.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr Joe Lamb, Dr. Jack Monaco, Dr Bjarki Olafsson, Skip Elskes, and Bobby Elskes.
A special thank you for the continued care and support expressed to Mary Ruth and the Houston family to the following persons Sissy Denton, Tanya and Jerry Barlar, Walter Levering, Susie Ripowski, Ken Ripowski, Linda Maxey, Clyde Maxey, Pat McFerron, Anita Hayes, Farrah Wyatt, Lesa Monaco, Robert Deaton, Pat Priddy, Stewart Hays, Mary Erlene Turner, Fae Ann Kreneck , John Kreneck, Larry Jones, Kathy Jones, Gentiva Home Health Care and Hospice Services, and Brighton Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, May 27, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons.
The family has requested that memorial contributions in Mary Ruth’s memory be directed to Browns United Methodist Church, 181 McLeary Rd., Jackson, TN 38305.
