Mr. Wilbur of Lower Brownsville Road died Saturday, Feb 23rd of heart failure at his residence.
A native of Oakham, Massachusetts he was the son of Percy Ford and Lila Catherine Wilbur. For over 75 years, he and his wife farmed together and were actively involved in the community. He was a member of the Andrews Chapel UMC where he spent many years working with the youth ministry and all facets of the church. He was president of Methodist Men at Andrews Chapel and St. Andrews Methodist churches.
Bill served in the US Marine Corp during WW11.
Following his marriage to Betty Spivey and a brief stint in Massachusetts, they returned to Huntersville to her family farm. His many accomplishments included serving as a Director of Madison County Farm Bureau, President of Madison County Farmers Co-op, director of ASCS committees, and director of Farm and Home Administration.
He also served on the advisory board of the Madison Co Board of Education and the Madison Co Welfare Dept. He also was president of the Madison Co Livestock Association.
He was elected Soil Conservation Man of the year. In 2017, he was inducted into the Madison Co. Farm Bureau Wall of Fame.
In his later years, he enjoyed working in the Century Farm Winery and meeting the winery visitors where he always had a story to tell.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Betty Joe Spivey, his parents and three brothers. Surviving are his children, Jo O’Cain (Carl), Cathy Jobe, and Brad Wilbur. He also leaves 7 grandchildren, 19 great children, 3 great, great grandchildren.
Serving as Casket Bearers are grandsons Bart Horton, Michael Bunton, Allen Hendry, Feb Boswell, Hudson Clark, and Sean Woodall. Honorary Pall Bearers are Paul Bond, John Meriwether, Pete
Bryant, Paul Hutchinson and Tom Carr.
