Wilma Marie Sowell

Funeral services for Mrs. Sowell will be conducted on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Oakfield Baptist Church in Oakfield, TN with Bro. Mickey Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakfield Cemetery.

Active casketbearers to serve will be Bill Cearley. Steve Cearley, Jeremy Chism, Marty Little, Sammie Broadway, and Raymond Jones.

Honorary casketbearers will be Stephanie Chism and Joanna Cearley.

Mrs. Sowell was born in Hardeman County, TN to the late Wilburn and Mabel Pruett McCaskill. She was a member of Oakfield Baptist Church. Mrs. Marie thoroughly enjoyed worshiping, spending time with family, working in her yard, fishing, gardening, and just riding through the county.

Marie is preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Sowell Broadway; and four brothers, Nelson, Deloy, Joe, and Wesley McCaskill.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Billie D. Sowell of Jackson, TN; a daughter, Linda Sowell Cearley (Steve) of Jackson; two grandchildren, Bill Cearley (Joanna) and Stephanie Chism (Jeremy); three sisters, Joyce Mehlin of Arizona, Mary Little of Trenton, and Frances Grooms of Gadsden, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family has requested the memorials in Marie’s memory be directed to Oakfield Baptist Church.

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening, February 11, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home.
