
RAY Agnes Taylor Ray passed away on Thursday August 13, 2009 at Taylor Care Center, Jacksonville, Florida. She was born July 27, 1919 in Monroe County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Clemons and Clora Cole Taylor. She is survived by her husband, Clifton D. Ray and three children: James E. Ray of Summerville, SC, Charles T. Ray of Pensacola, FL and Sandra R. Watkins of Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by a son, David C. Ray. Four grandchildren survive: Eilene Reed, Andrew Ray, Amanda Ray and Josh Ray, and three great grandchildren: Hannah Ray, Samantha Gregor and Mia Gallo. She is survived by one sister, Alice Ray, and is predeceased by brothers General Louis Taylor, Clarence Taylor and sister Alene Turner. She was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State College and had a career as a primary education teacher, retiring from Lake Lucina Elementary in Jacksonville, FL. During World War Two she served with distinction in the Woman’s Army Air Corps (WAAC), Eight Air Force, in High Wycombe, England. She remained a life long member of the WAAC Association. She married her high school sweetheart, Clifton Ray, on February 23, 1944 while both were stationed in England. She had been an active member of Terry Parker Baptist Church in Jacksonville since 1964. She consistently and selflessly gave her time and efforts for those who were less fortunate. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Jacksonville, FL. Services will be at the Funeral Home, 3:00 p.m. on Sunday August 16, 2009 with Pastor Howard Goodwin officiating. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Strode’s Funeral Chapel in Gamaliel, Kentucky with burial at the Gamaliel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Terry Parker Baptist Church, 7024 Merrill Rd, Jacksonville, FL. 32277 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
