July 24, 1936 – May 13, 2025
Alice Marie (Wright) Willis, affectionately known as “Gramy,” peacefully passed away at the age of 88 on May 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at home in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on July 24, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, Alice lived a vibrant and fulfilling life marked by resilience, ambition, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
A true matriarch, Alice was a woman of remarkable strength and resourcefulness. Throughout her life, she pursued a variety of entrepreneurial endeavors—owning and operating a restaurant, a multi-unit apartment building, and an adult foster care home. Her tireless work ethic and determination were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Despite the challenges brought on by dementia and cancer in her later years, Alice remained a pillar of dignity and courage. It was a privilege and blessing for her family to walk beside her during those times.
Alice was preceded in death by her beloved spouses, Walter Samuel Wright and Joseph Willis, her cherished son Antonio Wright, her dear niece Gloria Wells Regalado, and many other treasured family members.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, celebrated by her devoted daughter Ruth Wright (Thomas), her adoring granddaughter Nikkol Logan, and her beloved grandson Micaiah Logan.
Rest well, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We thank God for the precious time He granted us with you. As Heaven rejoices in your homecoming, we hold you in our hearts until we meet again.
“Alice, thinking of you always, loving you forever...”
Scripture Readings
John 14:1–4
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.“
Ecclesiastes 3
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance, a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak, a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.”
Although Alice’s earthly season has come to an end, her memory and legacy will remain eternally in the hearts of those she touched.
