Allan E. Knight, Jr., was born on July 27, 1963 in Jacksonville, Florida and was raised Jacksonville. He completed high school at Dekalb County Junior College in Georgia. He was a residential painter and faux finisher by trade. He loved faux finishing and worked until he became disabled. He could paint a room and make it look like linen wallpaper. He was meticulous in his work, a perfectionist.
He had a strong creative side and enjoyed studying various faux finishes even after becoming disabled. He had a keen fascination for fountain pens and coins. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly golf and football. He liked fast cars, with one of his latest interest being studying engines.
His greatest comfort came from his pets. He enjoyed his dogs and cat. They were his world. They kept him company by keeping him busy. He rescued several animals over his lifetime, stopping on the highway to try to save a kitten that had just been struck by a car, or to save a dog whose paws were blistered from the hot pavement. He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off of his back.
He was a loving husband, ironically meeting his wife while painting a house.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 15 years, Patricia P. Knight, his Mother, Carol Ann Melican, his sister Heather Strayer, his brother, Dezmond Goodwin, his daughter, Sara Marie Boylstein, his uncle, Tom Melican (Ramy), his father in law, Leonard R. Pavelka, his brother in laws, Paul C. Pavelka (Jenny), Robert F. Pavelka and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He truly loved all of his family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11am, Friday, July 16, 2021 in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 32207. A reception will follow at the funeral home.
