Alva Grace McCurdy Jernigan

The Memorial service will be on Saturday, June 26 at 12:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Alachua.

Mrs. Jernigan was born April 18, 1927 in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1945 and maintained long term friendships as a “Jackson Jill.” In 1953, she graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth , Texas.

She was married to the Reverend A.F. Jernigan on September 20, 1946. They would have been married 75 years this year.

Mrs. Jernigan faithfully served Jesus by her husband’s side everyday of her life. She loved her family, friends and co-workers and in return was treasured by all who were blessed to know her.

Mrs. Jernigan is survived by her husband Albert Flournoy Jernigan, her son James Jernigan and his wife Pam, her son John and his wife Michelle, her grandchildren Ashley, Ian, John Mark, Zachary, Libby, Luke, Judah and great grandchildren Alina, Everett and a third great-grandson expected in September.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the food ministry at her home church, First Baptist Church of Alachua, Florida. The family wishes to thank the Care team of First Baptist Church of Alachua and Haven Hospice of Gainesville for their loving attention to Mrs. Jernigan and their ministry to all of us.
