

Anderson R Williams, Jr., M.D. (Rod) passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025 peacefully at home after a long illness. He was the only son of Anderson R. Williams, Sr. and Mattie Farmer Williams. He was born March 13, 1939 in Waycross, Ga and the family soon moved to Jacksonville, Fl. When Rod was nine years old, they moved to Ocala, Fl. where he spent the rest of his childhood, graduating from Ocala High School. Rod attended the University of Florida graduating with a math and physics degree. He was admitted to the UF College of Medicine and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1965. His internship was at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Rod joined the Navy and attended Flight Surgeon's school in Pensacola and chose to go to Atsugi, Japan accompanied by his wife and daughter. There he was assigned to VRC-50, a transport squadron. He flew with his squadron into over 10 different Pacific Asian countries and landed and took off on 14 different carriers. He enjoyed his time with his squadron and living in Japan, and asked to be extended twice. Later he returned to North Island, San Diego. Dr. Williams did a residency in radiology at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, serving the third year as chief resident.
The family returned to Florida where he began St. Johns Radiology at Flagler Hospital. He practiced radiology for 28 years until he had to medically retire.
Rod discovered the Bible teaching ministry of J. Vernon McGee and through that ministry accepted Jesus as his personal Savior. Jesus Christ transformed his life, thoughts, and mission. He studied the Bible and taught Sunday School with joy for many years. He was also an ordained deacon and church trustee, and attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years.
In 4th grade Rod met Therrell, the girl who would become the wife he adored for 62 years. He is survived by his wife Therrell Smith Williams, daughter Dawne Schuman (Jay), sons Todd (Amy), and Brad. He also has five wonderful (his word) grandchildren, Andrea (Justin), Nathan, Zachary, Asher, and Hudson.
Dr. Williams will be laid to rest Friday, June 6 at 2:30 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7 at 5 p.m. at Hardage¬ Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge.
