

ACOSTA - Ann Bardin Acosta, 88 years old, died peacefully at home in the early morning hours of May 7, 2016 after a long illness. Born February 8, 1928 in Baldwin, Florida she grew up in the nearby community of Brandy Branch. Annie Sue, as she was known in her youth, graduated from Bryceville School in Nassau County where she played on the basketball team. After high school Ann attended the Ray-Vogue School of Design in Chicago, Illinois and then returned to the Jacksonville area to work as a fashion illustrator at May Cohen's Department Store.
Ann showed artistic talent in her youth, drawing and sketching regularly. As an adult she explored various mediums: charcoal, oils, pastels and ceramics. She applied her artist's eye and love of beauty to all her surroundings.
Ann married Paul Browning Acosta, Jr. in 1951, and became a homemaker and mother to four children. She leaves children, Cedar Acosta Armbruster (Kurt) - aka Dina Lynn Acosta, Teresa Acosta - aka Belinda Leigh Acosta and grandsons, Ibrahim R. Johnson "Andre”, and Gabriel M. King (Leah) and great granddaughter, Lenox Serenity King ~ all of Seattle, Washington, and son, Luis Miguel Acosta (Karen Levin) and granddaughters, Juliet Rose Acosta and Alison Chloe Acosta of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Paul B. Acosta, Jr. and her son, Paul B. Acosta III, preceded her in death. She also leaves her sister in law, Joan Bardin of Jacksonville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her sense of humor and creative spirit. Ann was a faithful member of the Arlington Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years. There will be a Graveside Service on Memorial Day; Monday, May 30th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery on San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd.
