

Ann Shmunes Shapiro was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada on July 14, 1916 to Ceila and Samuel Shmunes. She passed away peacefully on November 26, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Jacksonville since the age of 3.
"Meme", as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, had a fervent love of music and as a young woman sang professionally on the radio. She was a resident of the Coves for the past 10 years and was an enthusiastic member of the Coves’ Choraliers, singing solo on many occasions. She also wrote beautiful poetry inspired by her life experiences.
Ann and her late husband Harry were long time members of Etz Chaim Synagogue and for over 40 years were devoted and active members of the bingo committee.
She was a crossing guard at Hendricks Avenue Elementary School for over 35 years and will always be affectionately remembered as “Ms. Ann.”
Survivors include her brother, Jack Sherman, devoted children - Marilyn (Louis) Schwartz, Jerry (Judith) Shapiro, and Louis Shapiro, grandchildren – Leslie and Lauren Schwartz and Michael and Meira Shapiro as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 am Sunday (today), November 28, 2010 at Etz Chaim Cemetery located in Arlington Park Cemetery – 6920 Lone Star Road Jacksonville, FL 32211, with Rabbi Shaya Hauptman officiating.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Etz Chaim Synagogue.
