Audrey Dale Gibbs’s close family and friends call her “Dale”, or “Daily Double”. She was born with cerebral palsy, and her parents raised her to be as independent as possible. They instilled in her a hard work ethic, and never allowed her to let her disability keep her from living a full and fulfilled life.
Her faith in Jesus Christ was a living testimony to all who knew her, and her prayers of faith covered family and friends, far and wide during her lifetime. As a founding member of Fruit Cove Baptist Church, she remained dedicated and loyal—faithfully tithing and actively involved in her Ladies Sunday School Class, until her diminished health during the last several years.
In her younger years, Dale worked at the family Dry Cleaning Business, The National Cleaners, for over 50 years, located in downtown Jacksonville, Florida at the corner of 8th and Pearl Streets.
She additionally worked at home helping with cleaning, laundry, and yard work. Dale babysat children, and especially helped her nieces, Beth and Michele, with their children-Tim, MaryBeth, Andrew, Meagan, Bryan, and Lauren.
Dale enjoyed traveling to see family and friends. Her accumulated travels included trips to Portugal, Japan, California, Canada, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, and two Cruise Ship Trips to the Tropics.
Dale is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mildred Gibbs, her brother, Lt. Colonel Walter Melvin Gibbs, USMC, Ret., her niece, Mrs. Michelle Jansen, and her great-nephew, Bryan Jansen.
Dale leaves behind a loving family, that includes her sister-in-law and care-giver, Mrs. Luanne Gibbs, her beloved niece, Dr. Wendy Beth Summerlin (Ray), great nephews, Tim Summerlin (April), and Andrew Summerlin (Betsy), great nieces, Meagan Wolson (Andrew), Mary Lunsford (Weston), Lauren Hildreth (Anthony), great great nieces, Avery, Rylee, Lucy, and Eileen James, great great nephews, Jude, and soon-to-be born, Kayden Andrew.
Dale also leaves behind a loving and faithful Sunday School Class through her Church Family at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, including many dear and treasured friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere love and appreciation for VITAS Hospice, located in Pensacola, Florida, Pine Terrace Baptist Church, Fruit Cove Baptist Church, Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Pensacola, Florida, and Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Florida for their love, kindness, and care during Dale’s last days.
