

Barbara Adrienne Mansfield Leupold was born in Elmira, NY on August 19, 1926 and left this world in Jacksonville, FL on May 20, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Col. W. A. Mansfield of Rochester N.Y., veteran of WWI, and Doris Tallis of Henley-in Arden, England.
She attended Marion Junior College and received her Bachelor Arts degree from Florida State College at Jacksonville, where she was on the Dean’s List. She met and married Luis Paredes while he was attending graduate school at Cornell University and moved to his native Colombia. Her three children were born in Colombia. Following the death of her husband Luis, Barbara returned to the US to care for her aging parents. She married Carl Leupold of Jacksonville FL, in 1987 with many years of happiness until he passed away in 2011. She served as President of the American Women’s Association in Barranquilla, Colombia which helped the elderly and children of the less fortunate. She was president of the PTA of Parrish School, a Colombian American school, President of the El Prado Book Club for English and Spanish readers, in Barranquilla, Colombia and Life Member of the Jacksonville Garden Club.
Surviving are her three children; Luis R. Paredes of Bogotá, Colombia, Nancy King of Macon, GA and Dianne McVicker of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters: Norma Hansen and Roberta Beckwith, four grandchildren; Tanya Watson, Jason Pollner, Ashley King, and Andrew King, two great grandchildren; Kyle Watson, and Bryce Watson.
A celebration of her life will be held at noon on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 2001 University Blvd. W., Jacksonville FL. Rev. Terry Lucarelli will officiate.
