She was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She was 61 years old. Brigitte was born in the Cayman Islands to Rayal and Marcia Bodden, on September 14th, 1962. She moved to Jacksonville, FL with her family in 1964 and lived there for the rest of her life. She loved the Lord, drawing, dancing, telling stories, and making her friends and family laugh. She worked as a hairdresser for 28 years, and her clients became extended members of her family.
Brigitte was a bright light in a sometimes dull world, and cared most about making sure that the people around her were having a good time. She was funny, energetic, and loving. Everyone that knew her has at least one story from either the Islands or her time in the States that they will carry with them forever. She was intent on making sure that her family’s roots in the Cayman Islands would always be remembered, and once she was someone’s friend, she was that person’s friend for life. She was also an avid fan of all things pop-culture, and an encyclopedia on the subject for the back half of the 20th Century. She treated gossip magazines and Oscar-winning films with the same love and reverence. As if all of this wasn’t enough, Brigitte was an incredible self-taught artist who graced multiple family member’s homes with her art, with an ability to recall things from memory and put it on the page in a way most people cannot. She also loved to develop her own cartoons, and had an unmistakable style that was all her own.
She is irreplaceable, and her family is devasted to have lost her, but also grateful to have had the chance to know and love her at all. She is predeceased by her father, Rayal A. Bodden. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Richard Kent, Nicholas Kent, Carley Cagle, and Felix Valdes; as well as her mother, Marcia Bess; her husband, David Cagle; her brother, Ray Bodden; along with many other family and friends. The family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Community Hospice for making her transition peaceful.
Her memorial service will be on Wednesday morning, May 22nd, at Faithbridge Church. The service will be at 11:00, followed by a reception at 12:00. The address is 13720 McCormick Road, Jacksonville FL, 32225.
