

Calie Lilian Loss, 96, of Jacksonville, passed away November 8, 2010. Born in 1914 in New Haven, CT, she graduated from Smith College in 1935. She married the love of her life, Martin and in 1953, the family moved from their home in New York City to Miami, FL. She worked as a Medical Technician at the Miami VA Hospital. After her years at the VA Hospital she taught Hebrew at Temple Zion and Temple Sinai in Miami. She also served as the Head of the Religious School at Temple Beth Am in South Miami.
In the year 2000, Calie and Martin relocated to Jacksonville where she was a member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center, AIPAC, and a Life Member of Hadassah.
Mrs. Loss was preceded in death by her parents, Rose Mary and Morris Berman, sister, Jeanette Richman and her brothers, Rabbi Morton M. Berman, Rabbi Samuel Berman and Dr. Ben Berman. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Martin Loss; children, Joan Levin and her husband, Dr. Ronald Levin, Barry Loss and his wife, Millie Heinz, and Rabbi Harold Loss and his wife, Susan Loss; grandchildren, David Loss, Jason Loss, Shayna Levine (Josh), Talia Dolgin (Ari), Jennifer Biegelsen (Larry), Michael Levin (Samantha), Risa Herman (Stuart), and Dr. Dina Fetner (Howard); great grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew and Naomi Herman, Talia, Jake, and Danielle Fetner, Noah and Jenna Levin, Brandon and Marni Levine and Zachary and Owen Biegelsen.
Graveside services will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday (today), November 10, 2010 at New Center Cemetery (located in Evergreen Cemetery at 43rd & Liberty) with Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jacksonville Jewish Center, Jacksonville Jewish Federation or the charity of your choice.
