Carl Leupold to me was a great family leader ever since I can remember. He carried a warrior spirit and level of determination that is inspiring to us all. He loved to travel around the world with Barbara to see many great lands and awe inspiring sights. This aspect of Grandpa helped to instill a sense of adventure in the family, that I know has affected how I live my life everyday. He was a lover of the sky and sea, with his plane and many boats he was the ultimate captain. One of the most anticipated moments of the day was their "happy hour". That man sure did love his scotch. He also loved his republican politics, and of course Ronald Reagan. He was one of the most savvy business men I know, being a salesman for many years for Ralston Purina, a hotel owner and an investment trader amongst other things. He helped me get started with my own investments. This is just a small part of the man I admire and will truly miss. He will always live on in our hearts through the family he leaves behind and our many great memories.
One of my favorite stories about Carl was how my grandmother was always trying to teach him spanish. She always used little phrases at dinner time, "turn off the lights", which was paga la luz etc. I guess on one of their spanish vacations they were out at a restaurant. They had finished their meal and Carl decided to show off his spanish. At the end of the meal, he asked the waitress "la propina por favor". She was quite confused. He continued to ask her for it. He thought he was asking her for the check...He was actually asking her for a tip!!
