Born on April 16, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, Bud was the son of Carleton Arthur German Sr. and Catherine Abbey Bankert. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan, and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University. He later attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he studied banking. Bud also served in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer.
In 1960, Bud married the love of his life, Nancy Elizabeth Reed. They shared 56 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2017.
Bud built a meaningful career in the mortgage and banking industry, while also pursuing his love of flying as a pilot. He was an active member of the Arlington Optimist Club of Jacksonville, Florida, and a devoted longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church. Bud was especially passionate about building model trains, a hobby that brought him great joy throughout his life.
He was a devoted father to Dave (Angelia Lovell) German and Mark (Kathryn) German; a proud grandfather to Hanna (Stephen Mulhern), Atlas, Adam, and Krystle; and a soon-to-be great-grandfather to a baby boy. Bud is also survived by his sister, Helen Kay (Darrell) Quinn; sister-in-law, Donna (John) Edward; and daughter-in-law, Laura Perez.
Bud will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery, where he will be reunited with his beloved wife, Nancy.
