AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Carlos Vernon Capps

10 septembre 1936 – 23 novembre 2024
Avis de décès de Carlos Vernon Capps
AUX SOINS DE

Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home

Carlos Vernon Capps passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 23, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. Vernon was born September 10, 1936, in Lamont, Jefferson County, Florida. He graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1955. Vernon went to college at Emory University and Florida State University.

He married the love of his life, Shellie (Green) in 1957. Vernon and Shellie raised all their children in a loving home, instilling in them a good, honest work ethic, along with tire-changing abilities, camping, hunting, fishing and gardening skills. They did an awesome job raising their children, which made their children the people they are today.

At age 16, he worked for International Paper planting timber. His early professional years were spent working for the railroad, typing on a telegraph machine in Morse code, and working in different posts over North Florida and South Georgia. He began working as a plywood salesman for U.S. Plywood (later Diamond Hill), and he enjoyed a remarkable 50+ years doing so. He had opportunities to travel to many European countries such as England, France, Sweden, Austria, and even took his Uncle Dewey Lee as an interpreter on a visit to Germany. Vernon’s first retirement only lasted six months, when he became bored, and he went back to work for US Plywood (AKA: Champion) for a few years, before fully retiring. He seemed to love the retirement parties.

Vernon is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Shellie; their four children: Theresa Wright, Marie (Howard) Beckham, Denise Capps, and Herbert (Viviana) Capps; their nine grandchildren: Stephanie (Richard) Smith, Karen (Robert) Steed, John “Trey” Call III, Shellie Beckham, Michael (Natasha) Call, Eric (Megan) Beckham, Jessy Tills, Lucy (Tad) Davis, and Heather Beckham; and their 20 great-grandchildren: Aiden, Alley, Anthony, Bradley, Christopher C, Christopher D, Gage, Ivy, Jacob, Jayden, Kaytee, Kaylie, Kristopher B, Logan, Makayla, P.J., Paul, Robert Jr, Savannah, and Ty. He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Paul) Cooksey, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Carlos and Louise (Lee) Capps, his twin sister Mary Alice, and his son-in-law Steve Wright.

Vernon was laid to rest in Culley's Meadow Wood Memorial Park on Timberlane Road in Tallahassee.

His memory will live on in our hearts and with his family forever.
