

Charles D. Phillips, age 80, passed away on September 7, 2016 at his home in Jacksonville, Fl. He was born in Albany, Georgia on June 1, 1936 to John H and Eva Mae Phillips. Charlie had been a resident of Jacksonville most of his life.
Charles is predeceased in death by his loving wife Mary Phillips.
He is survived by his sister Florence (Eddie) Landon. His son Terry (Gail) Phillips, and his daughters Kimbrely (Kurt) Manthei, Lorraine (Bobby) Morrison, and Deborah Kelley. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece’s and nephew’s, He loved each and everyone of them. The younger ones got to enjoy him most and he always enjoyed their visits.
Charlie loved sports and was active in league bowling until his health issues kept him from it. Charlie was a big Bulldog and Jaguar fan and also a supporter of the American Legion Baseball Post 283. He graduated from Shillcut Floors in 1954 in Albany Georgia before starting his own business in Jacksonville. He was well known for his carpet laying and tile work until his retirement in 2010. Charlie was a man that never wanted much in life, therefore was very content with the love of family and friends. He had a huge, giving heart and everyone who knew him loved him dearly. He offered guidance, words of wisdom, and taught us to love unconditionally. Our lives are so much richer, sweeter, and filled with love having had him as the leader of our family.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to his niece Debbie Casey for being his caretaker for the past several years. They shared a special bond and sense of humor that was contagious to anyone who knew them.
Charlie was a member of the Calvary Hill Baptist Church of Jacksonville.
A Celebration of Charles’ life will be held on September 24th, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery at 4300 Beach Blvd.
