Cora Bulanan Salenga, devoted mother and grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, died peacefully, surrounded by family on April 28, 2019, after a 7-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. She was 70 years old.
Born in the Philippines, she is the fourth of the ten children of Benito and Dalisay Bulanan. In her younger years, she was a successful business woman, launching and managing a chain of bakeshops, but while doing so always prioritizing her children and family. After her move to the United States, she settled in Jacksonville, Florida, where her later years were devoted to family life as well as numerous personal charitable endeavors. She enjoyed robust good health nearly all her life, but in 2012 she was diagnosed with Lou Gerhig’s disease. Defying the odds (and most of her health care team), she battled the disease for 7 arduous years, and in doing so, inspired all who knew her. Even as her body succumbed to sickness, her mind, heart, and spirit continued to inspire others.
With her passing, she is survived by her three children Jennifer, Joseph, and Catherine, their spouses, six grandchildren with two spouses, two great-grandchildren, nine siblings and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews.
The Salenga family would like to extend their gratitude to all the caregivers and staff at The Legacy at St. Johns Assisted Living Facility, for their unwavering attentiveness and loving care.
The Memorial Mass will be on May 4, 2019 at 1:30 pm at San Juan del Rio Catholic Church, Jacksonville located at 1718 State Road 13, FL 32259. Please forward any mailings to Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home located at 11801 San Jose Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32223
