Dan Wheeler Stormes, Jr., loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Community Hospice. Dan was born on May 5, 1949 in Jacksonville, Florida, to Dan and Isabel Stormes. He graduated from the University of North Florida with a BA in Math. After college he worked as a computer programmer for 39 years for Insurance and Mortgage Banking companies. He retired in 2010 and enjoyed reading, WWII history, traveling, taking his dog Bailey for a walk, and having lunch at the Rib Shack with the guys. He was also a faithful member of San Jose Episcopal Church where he was an usher and served on the Breakfast Crew for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife Margie of 47 years; his daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Jay Nunley of Jacksonville, and Kristie and Saunders Bliss of Jacksonville; his grandchildren, Addison Anne and Alyssa Kate Nunley, and William Saunders, Jr. and Scott Stormes Bliss; sisters, Sunny Krivan (Harold) of Ponte Vedra Beach, and Jacki Anderson of Gainesville, Florida, and many other loving family members.
A special thanks to his caring nurses at Community Hospice at St. Vincent’s Hospital (Southside). The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at San Jose Episcopal Church. A funeral service for Dan will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018 at San Jose Episcopal. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to San Jose Episcopal or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
