

David James Kalna, of Jacksonville, FL, age 69, passed away on December 27th due to complications resulting from cancer. He was born on August 18, 1941 in Middletown, New York to Dr. & Mrs. Joseph Kalna. David was dedicated to education after receiving his bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State, master’s degree from New Paltz State, and doctorate degree from the University of Utah. His positions include teacher, principal, and assistant to the superintendant. He completed his years in education at Sandalwood High School, where he was employed for 28 years. He worked in the classroom where he most influenced and inspired students and colleagues alike. David was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His interests were reading, technology, travel, but above all, spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his smile, quick wit (he always had a good joke ready to tell!), and his dependability. David was a kind and trustworthy man. David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Leslie; his daughter, Nancy; his son-in-law, Michael; his grandchildren, Emma, Caroline, and Ava; his mother, Irene; and a host of wonderful relatives and friends. His family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 2, 2011, also in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
