It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Demetra Kartsonis who fell asleep in the Lord on February 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and grace. Her life was full of faith and family, serving as the cornerstone of everything she built since arriving in her adopted home.
Born in Greece on August 14, 1941, Demetra immigrated to the United States at age 15. A lifelong Orthodox Christian, she remained deeply rooted in her traditions and her faith. She found her greatest joy in her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother, ensuring her household was always governed by love and prayer.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Demetrios Kartsonis, her two sons: Rev. Dn. Athanasios Kartsonis, married to Diakonissa Christina; and Dr. Philip Kartsonis. She was a cherished grandmother to five grandchildren and a great-grandmother to one. Her list of survivors also include a brother, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, God-children and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 12760, Beach Blvd., in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday, February 18, at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd.
