

Dennis C. Shaffer, a proud Veteran and dedicated family man, passed away on April 15, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born on December 3, 1945, in Sagamore, PA to parents Charles and Marion Shaffer. He most recently resided in Jacksonville, FL with his wife of 36 years, Peggy Shaffer.
After completing high school, Dennis attended barber school for barbering and worked as a barber for several years. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a distinguished 24-year career. Serving on seven ships, Dennis excelled as an electrician and later became a Sonar Technician. He received an AA degree during his service and was immensely proud of his military accomplishments. Dennis retired from the USN in June 1993.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Dennis dedicated 15 years of his life to working for Scientific Atlanta/Cisco. He was also an active member of the Free Masons, belonging to the Fergus Lodge, and a devoted Shriner with the Yaarab Shrine Club for 25 years.
Outside of his professional and fraternal pursuits, Dennis enjoyed playing golf. He found joy on the golf course. His love for sports extended to being an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Atlanta Braves.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Shaffer. He cherished their time together and found comfort in their unwavering companionship. Dennis also leaves behind his stepson, John Kosakowski (Tara), and granddaughter, Piper Kosakowski, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. Also, three step-granddaughter, Kate Ferguson (Tyler), Rose Thompson, and Jessie Thompson.
In addition to his immediate family, Dennis is mourned by his two sisters, Marilyn Shaffer, and Patty Pine, as well as his nephew, Scott Pine. Their memories and the love they shared will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
Dennis C. Shaffer's legacy as a dedicated serviceman, loving husband, and cherished family member will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those he leaves behind. As an organ donor, he donated his eye tissue to enhance the life of another. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 am at Arlington United Methodist Church (1400 University Blvd N, Jacksonville, FL 32211). In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Arlington United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
