Dinah was born in St. Augustine, FL but spent most of her young life in Anderson, SC. After graduating from Winthrop University in Rockhill, SC she returned to Florida to begin a 40-year career in education. Many kindergarteners were blessed to start their school years with her as their teacher. She completed her education with a master’s degree in education from the University of North Florida. Dinah was committed to her faith by teaching Sunday School as a young woman and then volunteering as a Stephen minister in her retirement.
Dinah loved people her entire life. She was a devoted mother, doting Mimi and friend to anyone she met. She donated to many worthy causes such as St. Jude’s Hospital, Defenders of Wildlife, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and many more. She also loved to travel the world but for over 30 years, she spent at least one week a year at Crescent Beach, FL. Being born in Florida, she loved the beach.
Dinah will be missed, remembered, and forever loved by her children James and Jennifer and their spouses, her 5 grandchildren, Darby, Mckenzy, Marie, Gemma and Scarlett, and her baby brother Bob. Many others were touched by Dinah’s life; students, fellow co-educators, friends, and a host of relatives all across the southeast who are too numerous to name.
A funeral service is scheduled at 12:00 PM, Saturday May 13 at Mandarin United Methodist Church on San Jose Blvd, followed by a graveside service and reception at Oaklawn Cemetery on San Jose Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Stephen Ministry at Mandarin United Methodist Church.
