

A musician and teacher in the Jacksonville area for nearly 40 years, Mr."P", as he was affectionately known, directed orchestras at Paxon and Sandalwood high schools. He was beloved by students and faculty alike and multiple times Teacher of the Year.
Don was active in the music community as a cellist in the Jacksonville Symphony and Starlight Symphonette. He was a lifetime member of the Musicians' Association of Jacksonville and performedwith notable artists including Tony Bennett, Victor Borge, Count Basie, Liberace, John Denver and many others. He was director of the Jacksonville Youth Symphony and for over 20 years Orchestra Director of Duval Public School's Summer Musical held at the Civic Auditorium.
He earned his Bachelor of Music from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA and Master of Music at Northwestern University. Early organization credits include the Quad-Cities Symphony and Mobile Symphony. He retired in 1991 to enjoy the quiet life along the banks of the St. Johns River.
He is survived by his sons, Don and Tim Papenbrock; his sons' mother, Liz Papenbrock; and grandsons, Maddison and Mason Papenbrock.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in the San Juan del Rio Catholic Church, 1714-3 State Rd 13, Saint Johns, FL 32259.
