Doris Darden Parnaby Wooten, age 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida and lived here all of her life. She was Secretary of her Senior Class at Jackson High School and married her high school sweetheart, Frank E. Parnaby, while he was serving in the US Navy in WWII. After 13 years as a widow, she married Simon “Nade” Wooten. Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She found delight in nurturing her family and meeting their daily needs. She was of strong character and independent nature, ever loving and kind to all. She was a good friend to many and she found great pleasure as hostess. (Oh, what desserts she could bake!) Doris was a longtime member of Main Street Baptist Church, later attending Parkwood Baptist Church, and Southside Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and His Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, Maggie Harcum Darden Brown and Robert Redelle Darden; loving stepfather, Kizer R Brown; husbands, Frank and “Nade”; and beloved brother, William R. Darden. She is survived by a son, Gary Redelle Parnaby (Janice C), of Roswell, Georgia; a daughter, Connie Parnaby Inman (Thomas R, Jr), of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Gary R Parnaby, Jr (Gina), of Roswell, Thomas R. Inman lll of St. Augustine, Laura Parnaby Varnell (Jason) McKinney of Texas; Amy Inman Cumbow (Johnthomas) of Jacksonville; loving niece, Sondra Darden Speir; as well as Sandra and Ronald Carroll, and Pamula Johns, all of whom she claimed as her children. She has seven great-grandchildren.
In her last months, God blessed us by placing wonderful caregivers in our lives. These ladies, along with Community Hospice, lovingly assisted Doris on a daily basis, maintaining her dignity and encouraging us all. We are also grateful for the many years of loving care of Dr. Richard Glock and his staff. Her day always got better, even in the midst of adversity, when she heard his voice and felt the compassion in his words and action. He never ceased to make her smile.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 15th at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Entombment at Evergreen Cemetery will follow immediately.
