

Edith Lester Cowart “Edie” passed away to be with her Lord on June 13, 2014 in Birmingham Alabama. She was born on April 9, 1929 in LaGrange Georgia. Edie was a vivacious and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend to many. She married the love of her life, Joe Ernest Cowart on April 5, 1953 in LaGrange. They made their life and raised four daughters in Jacksonville, Florida. Edie approached everything in life with courage and conviction. She was an avid golfer, bridge player and gardener. She loved singing in the church choir and spent many hours walking on the beach.
She influenced many people throughout her life and leaves a legacy that is filled with love, compassion and zeal for life. She will be missed by her family, bridge partners, golf buddies, neighbors and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joe Cowart; four daughters, Cathy MeGahee (Chris) of Birmingham, AL, Linda Fricke (John) of Pensacola, FL, Judy Chamberlain of Birmingham, AL and Leslie Dye (Kevin) of Birmingham, AL; one sister, Jean Owensby of Green Cove Srings, FL and ten grandchildren; Joe Bowie (Bekah), Eddy Bowie, Ben Fricke, Macy Fricke, Peter Fricke, Kate Chamberlain, Sarah Chamberlain, John Chamberlain, Erin Dye and Craig Dye.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on June 21, 2014 at Holiday Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Albert Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service
