Edna Goldie Mae Jackson was born in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands on Thursday April 21, 1932. Edna departed this earth peacefully in Saint Johns, Florida early on the morning of Friday March 08, 2024, to see her Lord and Savior, reunite with her late husband (Colby H.), first-born son (Robert H.) and other family members who predeceased her. Edna’s second-born son Colby, and his wife Robin, were at her side each holding Edna’s hands as she said goodbye and slipped away from her earthly body.
Edna was a loving mother to both her sons, loving grandmother to her two grandsons and especially her four great granddaughters as well as Robin and Colby’s dogs, all of whom Edna doted over during the 34 years she lived with Robin and Colby. Edna is especially missed by Robin and Colby’s dog Snickers, who had been very attentive to Edna during her final days. On the morning after Edna passed Snickers sat by Edna’s room, as she had each morning during Edna’s final days, waiting for Colby so she could go in and “check” on Edna, but this time it was only to find an empty room. Snickers then looked up at Colby as if to say, ‘where is she?’. One of Colby’s fondest childhood memories is of Edna watching he and his older brother Robert (then ages 5 and 7), swim at Hog Stye Bay in Grand Cayman and when it was time to leave Edna gave each of them a small, locally made, container of very rich, sweet chocolate ice cream that they devoured. In retrospect, this was probably the catalyst for Colby developing a lifelong love of sweets (just like his Mother) especially anything chocolate. Colby jokingly told Robin Edna was living proof that sugar could not cause Diabetes, considering Edna’s daily consumption of sugar including a generous amount of multiple teaspoons in her cups of coffee as well as on pretty much anything she ate thru the course of the day especially her favorite, Stouffer’s Spaghetti. When Edna’s two grandson’s Ryan and Matt were young boys, she loved cooking them rice and beans “Cayman style”, which they still talk about to this day. Edna loved national politics (not unlike many Caymanians) and would update Colby on a daily basis with the latest news she heard either while watching one of the cable news channels or listening to Rush Limbaugh (prior to his death) on the radio. It was not unheard of for Robin or Colby to walk to Edna’s room and find her sitting in her chair with both the radio and TV blaring, simultaneously tuned to Rush and one of the national news shows at which time she would give them a quick update of what was happening followed by her opinion of what needed to be done to correct the situation. Edna loved hearing from her brother’s Eldon (“Donnie”) and Vibert (“Vachho”), with Donnie often giving her updates on all things Cayman.
Edna was predeceased by her first-born son Robert H. Jackson, late husband Colby H. Jackson, father Vibert A. Bodden, mother Annie L. Bodden, sister’s Patsy Hydes, Peachie Kohlmier, Kathryn Coxe and Naomi Panton, brother’s Virgil Bodden, Charles Bodden and Vernie Bodden.
Edna is survived by her second-born son Colby C. Jackson (Robin), grandson’s Ryan C. Jackson (Andriena) and Matthew T. Jackson (Kate), great granddaughter’s Rylee, Reese, Sophia and Cameran as well as Colby and Robin’s three dogs (Lucy, Snickers, Jesse) numerous nieces and nephews spreading from Cayman throughout North America including New York, North Carolina, Texas and Vancouver, BC. Sister, Phoebe Abrams, Brother's, Eldon (Donnie) Bodden and Vibert (Vachho) Bodden.
Edna's loving heart, kind gentle soul, and dedication to family will be greatly missed and never ever forgotten.
Per her wishes, no formal service’s will be held for Edna, only a private gathering of Colby and Robin, with their sons and family. Colby would be touched if his cousins, and/or any family from Cayman, were to offer a favorite memory of their Aunt Edna.
Edna’s ashes will be spread over the graves of her late son Robert, late husband Colby and in the bay where she watched Robert and Colby swim so many, many years ago.
God Speed Mom, until I see you again, Bo (Colby)
