

He was born May 3, 1926 in Bloomington, Illinois to B.H. and Marie M. Miles. He graduated from Chatham High School and attended Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Mr. Miles was a naval aviator and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1991 from the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office. He served as an elder at St. John’s Presbyterian Church. He was active in Habijax and participated with Habitat for Humanity in the Jimmy Carter Work Project in South Africa in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and his son Stephen E. Miles. He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Frances Hazard Miles, his daughter Susan Engemann (Tim), his son Craig H. Miles (Daphne), his daughter-in-law Kathleen Miles; his grandchildren Kimberly Patton Bragg (Mike), Amy Patton Prisco (Dom), Amy Miles Licke (Mike), his grandsons Miles Engemann (Heather) and Jonathan Miles, and his great-grandchildren Emma and Dom Prisco.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Monday, July 29, 2013 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Lovelady, Rev. Dr. Dwight S. Bayley, and Rev. Tara Thompson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
