

SCHMIEDER Our heavenly father called home the gentle soul of Edward James Schmieder on Friday 21 September while residing at St. Catherine Laboure Manor. Family and friends surrounded this devout Roman Catholic during his final weeks where he welcomed their visits, their prayers of thanksgiving for a life well led, and their loving words of comfort. Edward died precisely at 300 P.M. while his nephew George and niece Mary were praying the Divine Mercy at his bedside. Mr. Schmieder was born in Valley Stream, New York where he was the youngest of four brothers. A veteran of World War II, he continued his military service as part of the occupational forces in Germany from 1945 through 1947. All four of his brothers served The United States military each in a different branch of the service all engaged in combat all returned home safely. Later, Mr. Schmieder would become a vital member of the Jergens Corporation s sales team where after 37 years; he retired in 1991 as their Northeast Regional Manager. A lifelong bachelor, Mr. Schmieder would eventually follow his nephew Dr. George J. Schmieder to live in the Jacksonville, FL where he s been a resident for nearly 20 years. While in Jacksonville, Mr. Schmieder was comforted in his golden years by Dr. Schmieder, his wife Dr. Mary E. Schmieder and their four children Shawn, Katherine, Mary Grace and Christa. His retirement years were filled with the activities of a loving greatuncle to his extended family as well as numerous hours of devotion spent at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Bishop John Snyder High School. Mr. Schmieder is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lorretto, and two older brothers, William and George. Mr. Schmieder is survived by his sole remaining brother Joseph (Long Island, NY), nephew Dr. George Schmieder, Kevin Schmieder, Nieces, Christine Speicher, Deborah Schmieder and Carol Adamo, 7 great-nephews and 7 great nieces. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Thanks Mom and Dad fund at 40 Courtland St NE Atlanta GA, 30303. There will be a viewing and rosary service at Hardage/ Giddens funeral home Wednesday September 26,2012 from 5-8 on 5753 Blanding Blvd. Funeral will take place at St. Mary s Catholic Church in Obernburg, NY, 12767on Saturday 11 A.M. September 29th 2012.
