Eileen Purcell Duvall, age 97, died peacefully in her sleep this past Thursday, the tenth of May. She was born in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, on the twenty-sixth of May in 1914 to Bedelia and Jack Purcell. Mrs. Duvall attended St. Paul's School in Jacksonville before moving to Daytona Beach where she graduated from Mainland High School in 1932. Eileen, a long time resident of Jacksonville, was a devoted member of San Jose Catholic Church. Even into her nineties, she could be seen at the door before the Saturday 5:30 mass greeting and welcoming the parishioners arriving for the evening's service. A lifelong homemaker, Eileen loved life, reading, sewing, knitting, and talking with her many friends. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Commander Herman E. Duvall, USN (ret.). She is survived by her son Jack Duvall of Kemah, Texas, grandson Major John Duvall, USMC, and his wife Tetyana of Monterey, California, sister-in-law Hilda Duvall of Bainbridge, Georgia, and niece Peggy Purcell of Eldorado, Kansas. The family requests any memorials be sent to the Building Fund at San Jose Catholic Church or to the Mayo Clinic of Florida.
A mass in her honor will be held at San Jose Catholic Church next week. Please contact the church for details.
