Elaine Pennywitt Danese was born on September 16, 1955, in Pensacola, Florida, to Lila Lee Blair and Harry Edward Pennywitt. Though her life began in Pensacola, Elaine’s heart always belonged to Jacksonville, where she was raised and built a life rich with friendship, family, and unforgettable memories.
Elaine was a proud graduate of Samuel Wolfson High School, where she was a spirited cheerleader for the Wolfson Wolfpack. Her grace extended far beyond the sidelines—Elaine was a prima ballerina, dancing with both the Jacksonville Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet. Her love for dance was radiant and powerful, and she later opened her own dance studio, sharing her passion with young dancers. When she became a mother, she chose to close the studio, pouring all of her love and energy into her children, who quickly became the center of her world.
Elaine’s second act was just as inspiring—she became a highly respected court reporter, eventually founding her own practice, Prestige Reporting. Her professionalism, warmth, and fierce work ethic earned her lasting respect and admiration in her field.
Elaine had a gift for friendship and connection. Whether organizing reunions with her beloved Jacksonville Ballet Theatre sisters, catching up with her cherished Marianna Road Crew, or keeping lifelong bonds with her Wolfson classmates, she was the glue that held many hearts together.
As her children grew, Elaine stepped into her role as “Moma” with full heart and open arms. Her grandchildren became the light of her life, and her time with them was filled with laughter, wonder, and warmth. She cherished every moment—reading books, having sleepovers, snuggling in close, and simply being present. Her love for them was steady and infinite. In her final days, it was their hugs, their laughter, and the love they shared that brought her everything she ever needed.
Elaine is survived by her daughters, Danielle Leigh Danese and Erica Danese Mitchell, her son-in-law, Darrell Wayne Mitchell, and her adored grandchildren, Henry Rion Mitchell and Penelope Blair Mitchell. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Benny, who brought her joy and comfort in her later years.
Elaine’s legacy is one of grace, strength, and boundless love. She danced through life with beauty and determination, leaving behind a family and community forever touched by her presence.
