Beth was born in Savannah, Ga to Raleigh Sheppard Way and Melba Arlene Smith on July 27, 1950. She moved to Jacksonville at a young age and graduated from Fletcher High School, c/o 1968. Beth earned her BSN and dedicated her professional career as a pediatric registered nurse skillfully serving the local community for over 30 years at various pediatric offices and medical facilities including Baptist Medical Center and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Beth had a passion for taking care of children but her first priority was to care for her family and was a dedicated mother to her two beloved children, Shelby and Jonathan, as well as a loving grandmother to her three grandchildren, Rylee, Reece and Sheppard Roberts. Throughout her children’s lives she relished participating in all their school, extracurricular, athletic endeavors and both welcomed and “adopted” their friends as extended members of her own family. She rightfully earned the title of “Mama Pearl” and was known for singing her unique rendition of Happy Birthday for everyone she loved on their special day. Beth was a loving and loyal daughter to her mother, Melba to whom she remained very close until her death. She was also a devoted and loving daughter to her second mother Delilah Way, to whom she shared a very close and special relationship as well as her sister Laura Kay Way and her brother Raleigh Way Jr.
Beth lived life to the fullest and filled it with adventures, always being the life of the party without even having to try. She enjoyed traveling all over the Caribbean and Virgin Islands with her mother, Melba, and stepfather, John, and skiing with her close friends in the Jacksonville Ski Club. She was known for being very competitive and played tennis for the Epping Forest Yacht Club “B” team with her numerous friends. Beth’s favorite annual vacation was staying at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club every 4th of July celebrating with her beloved family.
She was preceded in death by her father Raleigh Way, stepfather John Amos, brother Peyton Way, niece Pamela Way and fur baby, FiFi.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelby Pearl Roberts (Ryan); son, Jonathan Sheppard Pearl (her veritable “angel” and devoted caretaker during her later years of life); grandchildren, Rylee, Reece and Sheppard Roberts; mother, Melba Amos; second mother, Delilah Way; sister, Laura Kay Way; brother Raleigh Way Jr.; and her lifelong friend and father of her children, Dr. Harvey A. Pearl.
The family sends their thanks and appreciation to Community Hospice and her beloved close friend Debbie Treece.
