Elna attended Highland Springs high school near Richmond and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Following a career as a fashion illustrator Elna married the late William Ernest Allen, Jr (chairman of the former Barnett Bank of Jacksonville).
