God bless you all during this very difficult time. I had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Rivers at Mandarin Baptist Church. She was such an inspiration, tirelessly visiting shut-ins who couldn't attend church. Heaven is a better place with her there.

My condolences go out to your family. you will be dearly missed. i knew you for many years for i did your hair for a long time till the last five or so years because i retired, but you were always so kind to every one you came in touch with, i loved your out look on life and how much you loved your family.You gave me so many good advices over the years that i knew you, i am sorry that i did not get in touch with you these last few years but was always to busy and now realize that is not good and i should always keep in touch with the best friends that we have for we have so few in life but go in peace and i will always remember you

This is to express my condolence to the family of Mrs. Ethel Rivers especially her two surviving sons, Larry and Ronald.

I remember Mrs. Rivers as a very kind and generous person.  Back in the mid-60s, when I was about 13 years old, I stayed with her for a few days.  She owned a family style restaurant in west Jacksonville and she was running it by herself at the time.  It was fun for me to eat three times a day in a restaurant, having all of those choices.  Her house was pristine and mostly unused because she worked such long hours.  There was a den where I stayed during the day and read all of her magazines and watched TV.  I remember her telling me that she and Mr. Rivers (who she was dating) liked to play music at night in her den and dance on the hardwood floor.  This was the 1960s, but she was an independent, self-sufficient woman who owned a restaurant and had a guy to dance with when she wanted.  I was very impressed.

I would see Mrs. Rivers only sporadically once I left Jacksonville.  On a few occasions when I was visiting my family I did manage to be brought along to a dinner at her home.  She never lost touch with her inner restaurateur and always served multiple main courses and multiple desserts.  She was a wonderful hostess who made everyone feel welcome.   

It was always good to see her doing so well for so long.  I know that she repaid her good fortune throughout her life with her concern and caring for others.  

Well done, ma'am.  I have always admired your energy and your spirit.  May you rest in peace.

I am truly sorry for the loss of Mrs Rivers.  It is never easy, nor can we ever be prepared to say goodbye to a loved one this way.  I pray that God's strength, peace and comfort be with the family always.

I'm so sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. My prayers are with you and all of your family. I've never met her, but feel like I know her, from hearing you talk. There are no words that I can say that will make things better. I know this for a fact. I also know that real comfort comes from God. Trust and lean on Him.

We never had the privelege of meeting Mrs. Rivers but we heard about her often from her son, Ronald Schaffer. He was our former pastor.  We extend our sympathy to Brother Schaffer, Martha and all the family.  It is so comforting to know that our separation from those we love are temporary and we will see them again.  Our love to all of the Schaffer family.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family. The loss can not be described nor eased, but know that I am sending prayers & love your way. Mrs. Rivers joins the angels that watch over us. And I am grateful to have known her.
