

Evelyn Adkins Miller, age 94, passed away on January 17, 2018 at Sunrise Senior Living Home, Jacksonville. Evelyn was the daughter of James Thomas Adkins Sr. and Annie Elmira Prescott Adkins. She is predeceased by her husband, Warren Leon Miller; her brothers, James Thomas Adkins Jr, and Lee Jackson Adkins; her sisters, Lucile A. Slappy, Verna Dean A. Baldwin, and Gladys A. Hobbs. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine M. Wallace (Richard); her sons, Thomas V. Miller (Marty), Joseph W. Miller (Betty), and James A. Miller (Sue); and 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Evelyn attended Andrew College in Cuthbert Georgia and moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1942 where she met the love on her life, Leon Miller. Evelyn and Leon were married in 1943 and enjoyed 55 years together until his death in 1998. She was a member for more than 60 years of the Hendricks Methodist Church, now the Faith United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Evelyn enjoyed her many years of association with her friends of the Methodist Susanna Circle. Evelyn was a volunteer for the Baptist Medical Center Auxiliary from 1989 to 2010 in the surgery waiting room. She was awarded the 20-year Service Medal and was an honorary life member of the Auxiliary. The family would like to specifically thank the staff at Sunrise Senior Living and Community Hospice for their passionate care of our mother.
A visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207 from 5:00 to 6:30 PM on Friday January 19 , 2018. Graveside services will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, noon, Saturday, January 20, 2018. Immediately after the graveside service, the family will receive guests for a reception and celebration of Evelyn's life in Taylor Hall at Oaklawn Chapel.
