

Dr. Floyd L. Pichler. Floyd was born to Lucille West Pichler and Lester West on October 10, 1922 in Sylvania, Georgia and passed away at the age of 89 on August 18, 2012 in Jacksonville. He graduated from Fletcher Academy in 1941. Upon graduation from high school he attended Andrews University for pre-med studies. In 1948 he obtained a medical degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California. Dr. Pichler was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He practiced family medicine for more than 45 years in Jacksonville. He helped establish the family practice residency program at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He held numerous non-smoking clinics in Jacksonville. Dr. Pichler was a former member of the Duval County Medical Society and a member of the Mandarin First Seventh Day Adventist Church where he was a lay pastor.
Dr. Pichler loved life which was exhibited by his passion for his family, friends, patients and church and in return received admiration, love and esteem. He walked with God and always had words of encouragement, wisdom and guidance for all who met him. He loved outdoor activities and ran his first marathon at the age of 55 and jogged every morning with his YMCA running group.
Preceding Dr. Pichler in death are his parents and brother, Bill Pichler. Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his loving wife of 40 years, Laverne Byrd Pichler, two daughters, Deanna Pichler, husband Walter Borges, her daughter Colby Levin; Bonnie Pichler Bryn and her children Tiffany Schultz, Jonathan Bryn, Son in law Dr. Randy Bryn; his son Dr. Daniel Lester Pichler, wife Clara, daughters, Morgan, Aubrey and Chelsea; step-daughter Jan Goodbrad Bagshaw, husband Dan and their sons Doug (Claudia), Rich (Stacy), Danny CB (Bridget), step-son Donald Goodbrad, wife Heather and sons Burgess and Dalton, 6 great-grandchildren and his sister Carolyn Crabtree and husband Don. Honoring Dr. Pichler as pallbearers are Michael Alford, Bennie Holton, John Folger, Bill Lackey, Bob Kemp, Bill Michelin. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his caregivers Lilly, Josh, Dinko and the staff of Baptist South for their loving care.
If desired in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dr. Pichler’s memory to the Mandarin First Seventh Day Adventist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Mandarin First Seventh Day Adventist Church, 10911 Old St. Augustine Road, 32257 and interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. HARDAGE-GIDDENS, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Boulevard is serving the family.
