Frances J. Calhoun-Fischette

She was predeceased by her only daughter, Barbara Gorman Ward, and Barbara’s father, Herbert Gorman.

She graduated from high school in Jacksonville, GA and attended South Georgia College.

She has lived in Jacksonville, FL since 1943 where she has touched the lives of countless women through her dedication, creation and promotion of Frances Calhoun Skin Care and Cosmetics. It was her passion to help women look and feel their best.

Frances was an avid member of the Jacksonville community having served on the Board of the San Jose Yacht Club and the BellSouth Yellow Pages. Additionally, she was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with numerous clubs and associations in the Jacksonville area.

She was a longtime member of San Jose Country Club and was distinguished as the first female member.

She is survived by her beloved granddaughters, Tamara Ward Scantling of Jacksonville, FL and Deanna Ward Armel of Orlando, FL and her great grandson, Chandler Austin Scantling.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert (Bob) Calhoun and James (Jim) Fischette.

Frances was one of eleven children and was predeceased by her two sisters, Ruby Jackson Rush and Ethel Jackson Martin, and two brothers, Hardy Jackson and Roy Jackson. She is survived by her six sisters, Millicent DeShazo of Waycross, GA, Ellen Hearn of Macon, GA, Martha Andrews of Jacksonville, FL, Sara Davis of Tifton, GA, Betty Webb of Valdosta, GA, and JoAnne Preston of Greensboro, NC.

Frances lived life to the fullest with optimism, faith in God, positive thinking and a priority to family. She always put others before herself and cherished all the friendships she created in her lifetime.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church on Hendricks Avenue with reception to follow.
