

She was born in Florida on August 27, 1930, the daughter of Mabel and John Meek. She had two brothers, Hunter and Emory.
On December 24, 1955, she married John A. Smith and on December 24, 2024, they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Frances leaves behind her loving family, husband John A., daughter Susan and husband Jim, son Mark and wife Diane; grandchildren Michael and wife Amber, Tate and wife Hillary, Jimmy and wife Jennifer, Candy; great grandchildren Griffin, Kit, Lee, Cayden, Zoe, Gabby, Jami, D'Kyla, and Danielle, and many nieces and nephews.
Frances graduated from Landon Senior High School in 1948. She was a member of the Lionettes drill team, marching at all football games. She was a homemaker before starting to work. She was an accomplished seamstress, designing and sewing clothes for her daughter and herself.
Frances worked for Duval County School System for 28 years. She tried to retire but went back to work due to popular demand! In 1968, she worked in the library at Englewood High School and at the main office at Sandalwood in 1971. She started work at Douglas Anderson in 1978 and lastly at LaVilla School of the Arts. She enjoyed her work, her bosses, the teachers and the students.
Frances and John loved to travel the USA. They visited all but 3 states. She had many photo albums and travel journals documenting all the wonderful details of their trips. She appreciated the beauty of this nation and loved seeing it with John and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations for Frances be made to Southpoint Baptist Church.
