Frances Giles Stiefel, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 20th, 2018. She was born in Athens, Georgia on February 7,1926. After the death of her father, John Kurgress Giles, she moved with her mother, Effie Marie Giles, and three siblings Jackie, John, and Shirley to Linton, Georgia. She attended Georgia State College for Women in 1944. She graduated from Duke University in 1947 with a degree in Nursing. After graduation, she met the love of her life, Clarence Eggleston Stiefel, while staying with her Aunt Barbara Louise Sears in Jacksonville Beach. They were married on January 3, 1952 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. They had three children; Robert Christian, Karen Ann, and David Giles. Fran and Clancy lived in their Fairfax Manor neighborhood for fifty seven years where they enjoyed many family gatherings. They established deep roots and a great love for Jacksonville. They loved their long established neighbors and friends.
Fran was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverside. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clancy. She is survived by her children, Robert Christian Stiefel (Lynne), Karen Stiefel McGarity (Sig), David Giles Stiefel; her four grandchildren, Eric Christian Stiefel (Samantha), Carrie Stiefel Annis (Jeff), Amy McGarity Davis (Tony), Laura Frances McGarity and five great-grandchildren, Abigail Marie Davis, Sarah Kathryn Stiefel, Peyton Lynne Stiefel, Eric Christian Stiefel, Jr., and John Hart Stiefel.
We are extremely thankful for the love and kindness shown to Fran by her devoted caretakers, Tanya Maceda, Tracey Mule, Renee Martin, Lori Thornhill, and Torcha Sampson. A visitation will be on Wednesday, March 7, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1415 McDuff Ave S. Jacksonville, FL 32205 on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 11:00 am. A reception at the church will follow the service. A Committal service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main Street.
