

Fred C. Gazaleh, 60, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2017, at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. Fred was born on May 16, 1957 in Houston, Texas; the Gazaleh family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, shortly thereafter. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1975, and earned his undergraduate and law degree at the University of Florida. He was employed with various law firms throughout Jacksonville, and most recently served as the Felony Division Director of the Public Defender’s office. Fred mentored many young attorneys. He also generously volunteered his time and legal expertise with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and was recognized by JALA for Outstanding Pro Bono Service with The Sulzbacher Center, where he continued to serve until his passing. Fred was an avid Gator alumni and a member of the Gator Boosters. He was also a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
Fred was predeceased by his father and mother, Canann and Asma Gazaleh. He is survived by his four sisters, Gloria (Greg) Obie, Delores (Lamar) Kaleel, Miranda (Brad) Shepherd, and Dina (Bassam) Atallah. He is also survived by his step-daughter ,Taylor May; a niece, and numerous nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church located at 6300 Bowden Road, Jacksonville, FL 32216. A Trisagion Service will follow at 7:00 PM, with the Very Reverend Archpriest Fr. Kamal Al-Rahil officiating. A funeral service will be held at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church on Saturday, July 8, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd. Donations may be made to The Sulzbacher Center and the American Diabetes Association.
