Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday March 21st, 2026 at Red Oak Cemetery, 650 Red Oak Road, Warwick, GA 31796. After the service, friends and family will be received for food and refreshments at the home of his dear cousin, Priscilla Carter, at 901 N Isabella Street, Sylvester GA 31791.
Born October 29, 1955, in Sylvester, Georgia, Gary was the son of the late Murray Arnold Whiddon and Ann McDonald Brantley.
Before retiring from Sauer Construction, he was an estimator, and before that, a master plumber. He was notorious for showing up to the office before sunrise, and leaving at 3:00 pm, “to beat the traffic.” Miraculously, Gary was never late for anything in his entire life. If the plan was to meet at noon, you could expect Gary no later than 11:45.
Second only to spoiling his grandkids, Gary loved watching football. Every weekend during football season, he would watch the Florida Gators play on Saturday and the Jacksonville Jaguars lose on Sunday. “Next year,” was always the year the Jags would make a Super Bowl run.
Gary was a man of deep faith. Each morning he would read the Bible, and often wrote down his thoughts, questions, and prayers. At the service, his son will read a brief sermon he wrote but never shared. Although he lived by himself in his later years, he was never truly alone because he knew God was with him.
Gary is survived by his son, Matthew Murray Whiddon and daughter-in-law Nicole Martin Whiddon of Jacksonville, Florida; his sister, Leisha Lavender of Tifton; his stepmother, Phyllis Whiddon of Mariana, Florida; his grandchildren, Liam Otto Whiddon and Heidi Breeze Whiddon; his former wife, Sharron Fehrle; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
