Genesther "Jean" D. Thorpe

Genesther “Jean” Demere Thorpe, 91, passed away in Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. She was born December 20, 1919 in Savannah, GA to Thomas Silas Demere and Virginia Esther (Redding) Demere. While living and working in New York City, she re-united with her childhood love, Marvin Renfro Thorpe, and they were married in January 1954. Jean was deeply loved and admired by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Abigail Thorpe Strache, her husband, Sean, and their son, Cole of Denver, CO; son, Kim Thorpe, his wife, Susie, and their daughter, Katie of Jacksonville, FL; step-daughter, Patsy Simmons and her sons, Ricky and Randy of Bunnell, FL; step-son, Marvin Thorpe and his wife, Linda of Cullowhee, NC; and step-son, Nicholas Thorpe, his wife, Mary, and their children of Pensacola, FL; and grandchildren. Jean also is survived by her sister-in-law, Josephine Demere of Macon, GA and her children and grandchildren; niece, Joy Guthrie of Lake City, FL; and other cherished family members and faithful friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Renfro Thorpe; sister, Inez and brothers, Bennett, Roy and Woodrow. Her family would like to extend immense gratitude to those at River Garden who cared for Jean during the last weeks and months of her life.

A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
