Geoffrey Muui, age 66, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 6th. He faced a long journey with courage, faith, and quiet strength, remaining active and engaged with life until his final day.
Born in 1959 in Kenya, Geoffrey was one of eight children, with four brothers and four sisters, and grew up in a close-knit family on the same farm. From a young age, he showed special talents in athletics and leadership, becoming a school captain and excelling in physical activities.
Following his formative years as an altar server, he attended a technical high school, where he developed early skills in engineering and carpentry. He could build furniture, wardrobes, and other woodwork with his hands, skills he used throughout his life. After exploring several paths, including a brief period in the army and completing a meteorology course, he found his true calling in healthcare.
Geoffrey trained at the Kenya Medical Training College in Nairobi, graduating in 1985 as an Occupational Therapist. He began his professional career in the Central Province of Kenya, where his dedication to patients, strong work ethic, and leadership quickly became evident.
He was recruited to work as an occupational therapist in the United States. After about ten years of service in Kenya, he accepted an opportunity that allowed him to grow professionally and build a life for his family. He worked in several U.S. states, including Missouri, Kansas, North Carolina, and eventually settled in Florida, where he made his long-term home.
In Nakuru, Kenya, Geoffrey married Rosalia Weru in the Catholic Church in 1985, and together they built a loving family. Before moving to the United States, they were both involved in medical work, Rosalia focusing on pediatric occupational therapy. He and his wife and children became naturalized United States citizens.
A devoted husband and father, he always put his family first, supporting his children through their education and into adulthood. He took great pride in their accomplishments and taught them to set goals, work hard, and finish what they started, always reminding them to "live your life fully knowing what you are doing."
After a long and satisfactory career, Geoffrey retired around the age of 63, continuing to stay active with private work and personal projects. Even as he underwent radiation therapy for cancer, he maintained a clean professional record, stayed physically active, and kept his faith in God at the center of his life.
Geoffrey is remembered as a faithful, loving, and honorable man, a husband who involved his wife in decisions, a father who could not be replaced, and a professional who believed in excellence, growth, and service to others. Those who worked with him, were trained by him, and raised and loved by him, will remember his strength, humility, and unwavering commitment to them.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosalia, his three children, David, Ann, and Lawrence, and extended family in Kenya.
May God grant him eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon him.
