

George Douglas Walker, 83, passed away on September 1, 2012. George was a native of Jacksonville and a 1947 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal and eventually relocated to Atlanta, GA in 1951. He was affiliated with the Motion Picture Industry most of his life and also managed multiple movie theaters. George moved back to Jacksonville in 2009. In 2010 he accepted Christ as his Savior and became a member of First Coast Baptist Church. He was also a member of The Southern Genealogist’s Exchange. He was an extrovert and never met a stranger. He truly gave and shared with all. He loved his church. He loved gardening and animals especially Willow and Barney. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry Dwight Walker, Sr and Elizabeth “Tuts” Green Walker; his biological mother, Virginia Green Poag; and brother, Harry D. Walker, Jr. He is survived by his brothers, Lee Walker of North Carolina, John Poag (Mary) of Jacksonville, and Don Poag (Margie) of Jacksonville; sister, Betty Poag Reed (Bud) of Jacksonville; multiple nieces and nephews; and special lifelong friends, Doug York and Buddy Bazemore. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012 with visitation one hour prior to service in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin with Pastor Richard Edwards as Officiant. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to First Coast Baptist Church Building Fund, The Southern Genealogist’s Exchange Society, Inc., or to Community Hospice of NE FL.
